National Diploma in Mine Survey

Mine Survey is the art of making accurate observations and measurements in the field in order to determine the accurate positions of points on the earth's surface. It is a specialised branch of surveying. It is an interesting combination of underground and office work. They are critical to the design, planning and safety of surface and underground mining activities, which must be accurately represented on mine plans. Qualified surveyors are vital to any mining organisation. It is a very responsible job as accuracy of survey details is extremely important for planning purposes.
At Zimbabwe School of Mines, practical applications for Mine Survey are emphasised through field trips to the mines, guest speakers and attachment. The disciplines you may touch on include Plane Survey, Location and Control Survey, Advanced Survey Methods, Mine Management, Environmental Management and Protection among many courses.

What can you do with your Mine Survey Diploma?

Graduates of the Survey department have a skill set that is highly employable in survey-related careers, some of these skills include: interpretation of the geology of mineral deposits in relation to the economic exploitation thereof, maintaining accurate plans of the mine as a whole and will create and update maps of the surface layout which will include buildings and other structures, as well as surveying the underground mine workings to keep a record of the mine operations  among many others.
