Challenging the way things are done in the mining industry, lives on today in our Metallurgy division, which offers Mineral Processing nd Extractive Metallurgy full-time and on block release both ND and HND level. We give students a global perspective on Mineral Processing nd Extractive Metallurgy with emphasis on Mineral Processing, pyrometallurgy and hydrometallurgy among many subjects. As you go through the three year program you will attain the top skills from our world class experts to turn you into a great Metallurgist
National Diploma in Metallurgical Assay

National Diploma in Metallurgical Assay

It is crucial in many industries which deal with metals to know exactly what is in a specific alloy to prevent failure, to ensure purity and to guarantee safety. Assaying all incoming materials, finished product and in-process pipes is mandatory for many facilities in a variety of industries. Studying for a Metallurgical Assaying Diploma at Zimbabwe School of Mines requires that you hold a Certificate in Metallurgical Assaying or Equivalent. The course involves an in depth investigation of the chemical and physical properties of ores, metallic and non-metallic minerals, alloys from the mining process and allied industries. It also provides an appreciation of the activities of the mineral processing plant

At Zimbabwe School of Mines, metallurgical assaying's practical applications in engineering and industry are emphasised through field trips to the mines and attachment. The subjects you may touch on include Analytical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry and Industrial Management among many others.

Course duration : 3 Yrs
Target Group : Mining and Non-Mining Personel
Level : National Diploma

What can you do with your Metallurgical Assaying Diploma?

A National Diploma in Metallurgical Assay give you an opportunity to work as a Metallurgical laboratory technician. Metallurgical laboratory technicians (MLTs) perform technical tasks that do not require the direct expertise of an engineer or scientist. Some MLTs work in industrial or academic materials research, testing the properties and stresses of newly created metal alloys. Other metallurgical laboratory technicians work in industries like mining, where they prepare and test samples to ascertain the purity and other attributes of mined metals.
They also might chemically convert rocky ores into usable materials. Metallurgical laboratory technicians maintain computerized records of experimental data and operate a variety of specialized equipment, including x-ray machines, spectrometers, electrolytic analyzers, pH meters, and centrifuges.
